Text Box: WATER SUPPLY SOURCE

Raw Water Source

Raw water is abstracted from the Laloki River at the Rouna 1/3 Headpond and gravitated via a 750mm diameter steel pipeline to Mt Eriama Treatment Plant. This provides only about 116 Mld and is not adequate to cover the whole city. Hence, supplementary raw water is being abstracted from the Laloki River by the Bomana Pumping Station and delivered to the treatment plant. The combined raw water is able to deliver an output of about 170 Mld.

Future Scheme

The existing scheme is planned up until 2006. After 2006 raw water will be extracted from Rouna 4 to complement the existing supply whilst the Bomana Pumping Station would be turned into an emergency scheme. Once Rouna 4 is completed, the combined extraction would be sufficient to cover the city’s 2020 planned demand of 184 Mld.

Alternative Water Sources

To date no work has been undertaken to identify alternative raw water sources for abstraction for demands after 2020 and beyond.
